The 3 Top Beauty Trends for Summer 2016

Posted on 24 May 2016

Beauty these days can get so complicated--highlighting, contouring, lip color, matte, satin, sheer, opaque? We're exhausted by it, and trying to pile together too many features or techniques just makes for an overdone mess. Lucky for us, beauty this season is all about classic simplicity with a clean twist.

In the nail world for example, the use of negative space is blowing up! Bust out the clear polish and design pen for some clean lines and exposed natural nail. Lines both vertical and horizontal are mainstays for this style, but if you've got the skill (or a great manicurist, we love Fleur De Lys in Portland), curves are super-cool too. Keeping color to a minimum is also key to pulling off this trend. Stick to your blacks, whites, and metallics.

In makeup, the same concepts apply when it comes to letting the "naked" shine through. Universally flattering roses and golds are hitting the runways hard, and we see it on cheeks, eyes, or both. No highlighting or contouring needed--the subtle shimmer of these shades will create dimension on their own.

For hair, pull out an elastic and get ready to bring it back to basics! What we're seeing in the fashion world is a whole lot of simple tresses, whether it be straight and sleek, an updated messy bun, or the most trendy; a ponytail. Go ahead, pull back your locks in the usual hitting-the-gym style, but set it low and give it a wrap secured with a bobby pin to bring style and class to this look.

Beauty trends are supposed to make you feel beautiful! So make sure to only follow trends that speak to your inner glam!

Excellent article! What a relief to know we don’t have to hire a professional stylist to look good. Simple but elegant. Love it!
